Here's a quick update on how our family is doing...
Billy and I are still in the hospital although I was technically discharged yesterday afternoon. With Kincade still in NICU (and most likely there until Monday if everything continues to go well) we aren't in that big of a hurry to add "commute time" to our visits down to see our sweet boy. Kincade is doing well and has started weaning off of his glucose IV drip as he gets better at regulating his own blood sugar. He's only missed one blood sugar goal so far and, if he continues his awesome progress, he should be off the IV by midnight tonight. Then it will be another 24 to 48 hours to be sure he's stable before he would be able to finally meet his big brother and head home.
Both Billy and I have talked about how much more relaxed we are this time through NICU. It's a bit sad that this is becoming standard operating procedure for us whenever we add to our family. :) I'm not sure if it's because it's our second round through NICU or just because we have a couple years of parenting under our belts, but it's nice to not be as stressed as I remember feeling when Kiernan was in NICU. Billy's mom, Pam, and my mom, Val, are both in town to help with Kiernan and running our crazy household. They have been a godsend! My mom even made the comment this morning that I may be a bit disappointed by how well Kiernan has done without his momma. Apparently, with both Grandma and Mimi in town, he's having a blast. He doesn't even seem to think it's a bit odd that he hasn't met his alleged little brother or that Momma and Daddy are living at the hospital.
Okay, it's time to head down for Kincade's noon feeding. We're going to celebrate our birthdays tonight by leaving the hospital (gasp!) and feasting on delicious prime rib that Billy's dad, Bill, is preparing at our house. Especially after all these days of hospital food, it will be incredible!
Please keep all of us in your prayers, especially Kincade. We'll try to get some new pics at this next feeding and get them posted soon.
