Well, you've heard it before, but this time we may actually be getting out the hospital. The past few days have been a bit trying but we're all hoping that the worst is behind us.
Kincade has rallied and is completely weaned off of his glucose IV. His blood sugar has held steady, save for one dip down, and he even reached his highest number yet on Monday. We had a bit of a scare when Kincade did not pass his first hearing screen but he has since passed his second test and we've been assured that everything is fine. He's a bit jaundiced and his billirubin was slightly elevated so he's spent the past day under the billi lights. He's looking much better and his billirubin is already going down.
Now, I know some of you may be a bit confused as to why we're still at the hospital when we were all but assured that we would be homeward bound as of yesterday. Well, just to change things up a bit, I decided that life was a bit too predictable with just Kincade having medical troubles. When Billy and I woke up yesterday for Kincade's 6:00 feeding I started off feeling bad and quickly went to much worse. Although I've been warned by several women (yes, random woman in Kroger, I'm talking to you) that the contraction pains after birth can be awful I was literally doubled over in pain. Billy wheeled me down to the NICU and, within 10 minutes, I had tears streaming down my face and was just in incredible pain. To put it in perspective, on a scale from one to ten, I was putting this pain at a seven and labor was an eight. The lovely NICU nurses convinced me that this kind of pain wasn't normal (it honestly didn't take that much convincing) and they took Billy and I down to the ER. Long story short, some of the placenta had been retained after Kincade was born so I had to have surgery. Ah, the hits just keep coming. :)
The take home message is that we are both doing well now and are very much looking forward to going home today. Kiernan still hasn't met Kincade so we'll be sure to keep you posted on how all that goes down. The newest pics are downloaded at home so the next update should have pics of us going home and some of Kiernan and his new baby brother home at last.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. :)
